The £40m project is funded by Preston City Council and supported by the Harris Quarter Towns Fund Investment Programme and Preston City Deal

As well as creating an eight-screen cinema, the project will also create a sixteen-lane bowling alley, five new restaurants and bars, a streetfood hub, a car park and a new public terrace next to Preston Markets.

Animate will attract a family friendly audience and help to boost Preston’s daytime and night-time economy. The project will create over 100 jobs and generate an extra £7m of economic activity each year. Once complete, Animate will be in the ownership of Preston City Council. It will reinvigorate Preston’s city centre and help anchor the Harris Quarter as a leading leisure and culture destination in the region.

A planning application was submitted in December 2021 and, subject to receiving planning permission, work on the project will begin in the summer of 2022.
